But Marvel Rivals had 1.22 million of those members online when we looked, almost double Midjourney's online count. The largest server and the liveliest server are not the same server.

These figures come from Discord's own public Server Discovery directory, captured on September 21, 2026. Discord publishes two numbers for each listed server: total members, and members online right now. We recorded both for every server on the directory's home, gaming, music, entertainment and education pages, 42 servers in total, holding 75.8 million memberships between them. Twenty-two of them have more than a million members.

Size and liveliness are different rankings

Across all 42 servers the median online share was 10.0 percent, and it ranged from 0.4 percent to 35.2 percent. The pattern is consistent.

• Live game servers run hot. HELLDIVERS Official Discord had 35.2 percent of members online, Marvel Rivals 27.3 percent, Honkai: Star Rail 20.5 percent and Official Fortnite 20.3 percent. People keep Discord open while they play.

• AI tool servers run cold. Midjourney sat at 3.7 percent and Viggle at 3.1 percent. Members join to use a bot, get what they need and leave the tab.

• Crypto project servers ran coldest of all. Walrus had 0.4 percent of members online, Mantle 1.0 percent and Sui 1.3 percent, the three lowest readings among named projects in the directory.

That last point matches what we found on Telegram, where a third of the members in the biggest crypto groups sit in silent rooms. Communities built around an incentive to join tend to keep the member and lose the person.

A caution on the online figure. It is a single moment, taken around 05:15 UTC, and it shifts with time zones. A server whose audience is mostly asleep will read low. Use it to compare broad types of server, not to rank two similar servers against each other.
