Dyno is the best free automod on Discord and one of the oldest bots still standing. The free tier covers what many rivals charge for, premium is cheap at 4.17 dollars a month for one server, and the dashboard, while dated, does everything from the browser. Its gaps are the ones every rule-based bot shares: it matches patterns, so reworded scams, fake moderators and slow raids pass through.
We build an AI moderation bot for Discord, so we sit downstream of Dyno in a lot of servers and see what it catches and what it misses. Same rules as our other bot reviews: honest strengths, named gaps. Prices and tiers below are from Dyno's site on September 23, 2026.
What Dyno does well
Moderation depth, for free. Banned words, spam pressure, mention limits, link control, raid lockdown, all with per-channel overrides and graduated punishments, plus clean mod-action logging. Slash commands respond fast and role management is solid. For a server whose main problem is enforcing rules on a budget of zero, Dyno remains the default answer.
Dyno pricing in 2026
Free: automod, starboard, tickets, 3 customizable embeds, 25 custom commands, 10 autoresponders, 3 active giveaways, 3 forms, 3 reaction role menus, 3 autoroles, 1 autodelete, 1 automessage and 1 autoban per rule.
Standard: 4.17 dollars a month, billed as 49.99 a year, for one server. Adds levels, unlimited commands and modules, advanced automod, advanced starboard, autopurge, slowmode and voice-text linking.
Premium: listed at the same 4.17 dollars a month. Everything in Standard plus Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit and Kick integrations.
Custom: 7.50 dollars a month, billed as 89.99 a year. Everything in Premium plus an uploadable avatar, custom username and status, and increased performance and uptime.
Two things stand out. Premium is priced per server, so a network of communities pays per community. And the free tier's limits are counts, not features: three reaction role menus is plenty for a small server and a wall for a large one, which is the point where most people either upgrade or add Carl-bot for roles.
Where Dyno hits its limits
Dyno matches patterns. Its automod catches the parts of an attack that look like spam: repeated messages, mass mentions, flagged words, a burst of joins. It does not ask why fifty week-old accounts joined together, why a link domain is two days old, or why an account with no history is suddenly posting in nine channels. Those are behavioral questions, and every keyword list is a museum of last month's attacks. Our 2026 security report put the miss rate of keyword filters at 85.7 percent.
The dashboard is the other complaint. It works, but it feels its age next to Sapphire's or MEE6's, and it is the reason some admins go looking elsewhere.
Dyno vs the alternatives
Against MEE6, Dyno wins on moderation and loses on onboarding, covered in Dyno vs MEE6. Against Carl-bot, they pair rather than compete: Dyno moderates, Carl-bot handles roles and logs. Against Sapphire, the newcomer covers most of the same automod ground with a cleaner dashboard and less track record. We compare all of them in Sapphire vs Carl-bot vs Dyno and Carl-bot vs Dyno vs MEE6. If you are leaving, the options are in the best Dyno alternatives.
Verdict
Run Dyno if moderation is the priority and the budget is small. It is the deepest free enforcement in the category and premium is fair. Keep it below your admin roles, grant only the permissions the modules you use need, and add a detection layer for what rules cannot see. That is the job collony.ai does alongside Dyno, reading behavior rather than keywords and removing scam accounts in seconds. For the wider field, see the best Discord moderation bots.
Frequently asked questions
Is Dyno bot free?
Yes. The free tier includes automod, starboard, tickets, 25 custom commands, 10 autoresponders, 3 reaction role menus, 3 autoroles, 3 giveaways, 3 forms and 3 custom embeds. Premium starts at 4.17 dollars a month billed as 49.99 a year for one server, per Dyno's site in September 2026.
How much does Dyno Premium cost?
Standard and Premium are both listed at 4.17 dollars a month, billed annually at 49.99 dollars, for one server. Premium adds Twitch, YouTube, TikTok, Reddit and Kick integrations on top of Standard. Custom is 7.50 dollars a month, billed 89.99 a year, and adds a custom avatar, username and status with higher performance.
Is Dyno good for moderation?
Yes, it is the strongest free automod among the general-purpose bots. It covers banned words, spam pressure, mention limits, link control, raid lockdown and per-channel overrides with graduated punishments. Its limit is that it matches patterns, so reworded scams and coordinated behavior pass through.
Dyno or MEE6?
Dyno for moderation, MEE6 for onboarding and engagement. Dyno keeps its core automod free where MEE6 charges. MEE6 is faster to set up and better at levels and welcome flows. Many servers pick Dyno the moment moderation load becomes real.
Does Dyno stop raids and scams?
It slows the noisy parts: mass mentions, repeated spam, flagged words, and it has a raid lockdown. Raids by accounts that behave like members until launch, reworded scams and impersonation usually get through. That layer needs behavioral detection running alongside Dyno.
